Apple Intelligence in Cardmaniacs
On supported Mac, iPhone, and iPad models with Apple Intelligence enabled, Cardmaniacs adds on-device features—no account with a third-party AI provider required.
Reader intelligence
| Feature | Access |
|---|---|
| AI Summary | ⌘⇧U (macOS) |
| Show Entities | Command palette |
| Extract Key Highlights | Command palette |
Summaries and entity extraction run against article text locally. Quality depends on content length and language.
Digest
Digest (where surfaced in app UI) batches recent library activity into a readable briefing—unfinished queue items, notable feed posts, or highlights. Availability follows OS intelligence gates and user opt-in under Settings → General intelligence sections.
Share extension
Save URLs from Safari, News, social apps, and anywhere the system share sheet appears. Choose Read Later or Bookmarks at save time.
Configure defaults and enable the extension in Settings → Share. On iOS, also verify the extension is enabled in Settings → Apps → Cardmaniacs.
Safari extension
The Safari extension adds in-browser actions—quick save, reader handoff, and related capture flows. Enable from Cardmaniacs Settings or Safari → Settings → Extensions.
Widgets
Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show unread counts, queue depth, or quick-launch into common destinations—implementation varies by widget family and OS version.
Shortcuts and Siri
CardmaniacsShortcuts exposes App Intents for automation:
- Add to Read Later or Bookmarks
- Open a destination
- Mark read / star
- Refresh feeds (where exposed)
Build shortcuts in the Shortcuts app; trigger via Siri, Focus filters, or automation. Palette entries like Settings: Siri & Shortcuts (General) jump to the relevant General settings section on macOS.
Spotlight
Indexed cards appear in Spotlight search on macOS and iOS—search by title, tag, or snippet. Open directly into the reader.
Handoff
Handoff continues reading on another Apple device signed into the same Apple ID—open the article you were reading on Mac on iPhone, or vice versa, from the Dock or app switcher handoff affordance.
Global hotkey (macOS)
Settings → Advanced → Global Hotkey registers a system-wide Quick Capture shortcut (default ⌘⌥⇧C when enabled)—optional for capture-heavy workflows.
Command palette integrations
Palette-only settings jumps (no shortcuts):
- Settings: General
- Settings: Siri & Shortcuts (General)
- Settings: Share Extension (General)
- Settings: Feeds
- Settings: Keyboard Shortcuts (Advanced)
- Settings: Global Hotkey (Advanced)
- Settings: Data & Storage (Advanced)
- Settings: About (General)
Use ⌘K and type “Settings:” to reach these quickly.
Privacy model
Integrations use Apple frameworks (Share, Safari, WidgetKit, App Intents, Handoff, Spotlight). Intelligence processing stays on-device where Apple Intelligence applies. Cardmaniacs does not require a separate cloud AI subscription for core reading features.
